Laurel Rose Halsey sang in choirs and school talent shows from elementary school through college, occasionally benefiting from piano and voice lessons, as well. She eventually started performing regularly in open mics, crafting piano arrangements of covers she loved. She picked up the accordion along the way, and in 2011 joined her first band, Oust. Although Oust’s members eventually went their separate ways, the group was instrumental (no pun intended) in helping her develop her songwriting and arranging abilities. In 2014, she started teaming up with various musicians to perform her original tunes. In early 2017, she formed the indie pop trio Bal Boheme, and now uses the moniker Laurel Rose only for solo performances. She has also been a member of the band The North Country since 2016.
